Happy New Year!

Happy new year and welcome back! We are excited to get things going again in spite of all this cold snowy weather.

Thank you for all of your support with our Holiday Play in December. I am tremendously proud of our Grade 2 students!  They worked very hard and I am sure made you very proud as well.

Here is what we have been up to since then:

We continue to work with our Daily 5 Routine that allows time each week where the students work independently on reading and writing as well as time that I can read with small groups.

We have started Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a read aloud and have really been enjoying hearing about Charlie Bucket, Grandpa Joe, Agusutus Gloop and all of the other crazy characters!

We continue to work on our writing by using words from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for our Word Work.  I encourage the students to find opportunities to write at home: make lists, write journals, send notes.  If the students have an interest in being on the computer, I encourage them to spend some of the time on sites that help them practice their typing skills like: Dance Mat Typing http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/z3c6tfr#z34thyc

The students met with great success when working on learning to tell time on analog and digital clocks.  We are moving forward presently working on addition and subtraction strategies.  We start our math lessons developing our mental math strategies by doing Kung Fu Math.

In science we are learning about Air and Water.

Welcome to Grade 2!

Thank you for your patience with the start of this school year.  We are getting into the swing of things and I found some time to update this page.  Please check it every now and then to see if anything pertaining to your child has been posted.

The students seem well prepared with everything they need but if you are looking to contribute to our learning environment the following items are always welcome:

Kleenex

Paper towels

Glue Sticks

Wet Wipes

Please check your student’s agenda on a daily basis and feel free to use the agenda as a means of communicating with me.  I check it each morning as the students come in so I will be able to see any notes first thing in the morning.  The agenda will also have the Words of the Week that the students will focus on for that week.  They will have opportunities to practice these words throughout the week but extra practice writing, spelling, and using these words is always encouraged.

Please find a little bit of time each day to read with your child or have him or her read to you.

Library is Day 3

Gym is Day 3 and Day 5
